11 Days Mt Kenya Hike & Samburu, Ol’pejeta, Aberdares, Lake Nakuru, Lake Naivasha & Masai Mara Safari

Samburu is situated 350 kms north of capital Nairobi. This national reserve lies on the banks of Ewaso ngiro river and other side of Buffalo springs national reserve. Samburu national reserve is named after the local inhabitants Samburu community.

The Park is the home to all big cats; Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs, Wild dogs, large herds of Elephants, reticulated Giraffes, Beisia Oryx, Grevy Zebra, Gerenuk antelopes, Kudu, Somali Ostriches and over 400 species of birds. On the other side of the park is Buffalo Springs, Shaba National Reserves and to the north is Mt Ololokwe (Sabache) which also offers worth a visit.

 

Mount Kenya is the second highest mountain in African continent after Mt Kilimanjaro.  a critical biodiversity hotspot-important bird area, World Heritage Site, National Park and National reserve. We regard it amongst the most scenic mountains in the world as it boosts from its razor-shaped peaks, permanent glaciers, many high-altitude lakes/tarns, rivers, waterfalls, rainforests, various large and small wild animals which spice up the hiking environment to be superb.

 

Olpejeta conservancy is East Africa’s largest black rhino sanctuary, home to the only northern white rhinos remaining in the world and the only place in Kenya to see Chimpanzees. OlPejeta holds the highest number of predators per acre in Laikipia (lions, cheetahs, leopards and wild dogs)

 

Aberdare National Park provides an array different experience to its visitors. The protected Aberdare Mountains of the Central Kenya, comprises of two ecosystems that is the moorland landscapes and dense rain and bamboo forests.

 

Lake Nakuru attracts vast numbers of fabulously colored pink lesser flamingos among other wildlife such as Hippo, white and black rhinos, giraffe, lion, buffaloes, leopards and a profusion of many species of birds are also present at the shallow alkaline lake surrounded by forests.

Lake Naivasha is famous for its significant national freshwater resource in an otherwise water-scarce area, supporting a diverse community of waterbirds and many large and small mammals. The ecosystem provides an array of activities such as; Hiking to Mt Longonot, boat rides, walking/bicycle rides safari at Hells Gate national park encountering one on one with wildlife such as; giraffes, buffaloes, hippos among many others.

Masai mara national reserve it’s globally famous for its exceptional wildlife population of the ‘Africa’s Big Five’ which includes Masai lions, African lions, rhinoceros, African buffaloes and leopards. Other small and big residents include; hyenas, wild dogs, giraffes, cheetahs, vultures, crocodiles and hippos among many other wildlife.

Other than the abundance of animals, this endless Savana boosts one of world’s biggest wildlife movement drama happens here every year from July to October which has been rated 7th wonder of the modern world. It’s the migration of wildebeests, zebras and gazelles crossing from Serengeti national park in Tanzania in search for greener pastures before heading back for calving.

Day To Day Plan

Day 1 : Nairobi Hotel/Airport – Samburu National Reserve

Drive time; 6Hrs

Meals; Lunch & Dinner.

Depart Nairobi hotel at 7am in the morning and drive along the great North Road passing the Kenya central Highlands to plain lands arriving Samburu lodge or similar for lunch. Later in the day experience an evening game drive and return to your camp for dinner and overnight.

DAY 2:Samburu Full Day

Meals; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Leave your camp after an early breakfast for a half day game viewing returning back later for lunch. In the evening you too head out for game viewing before sundown. Dinner and overnight at your camp.

Day 3:Samburu – Mt Kenya Bandas

Drive Time; 3hrs

Start with an early morning game drive and return to the camp for breakfast. Check out the park at around 9am passing through a Samburu community village for a cultural ceremony. Commence with your journey to Mt Kenya Sirimon Bandas for overnight.

Day 4:Mt Kenya Day Hike – Olpejeta Sweetwaters Tented Camp/Similar

Altitude gain; 1,300m.

Hiking Round trip distance; 14km in 6-7hours

After taking some breakfast around 8am, board on your jeep driving for 20 min inside the Mt Kenya forest with high chances of spotting wildlife, start hiking from Old Moses camp till view point taking about 3hrs and another 2.5 coming back.

Equip yourself with about 2 liters of water per person and relatively waterproof hiking boots and a rain jacket. Lunch would have been packed for you.

Day 5:Olpejeta Safari – Aberdares/Nyeri

Drive Time; 2hrs

Meals; Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner.

Wake up for an early breakfast welcoming a bright day here in the wilderness and check out for a game drive in search for carnivores on their hunt such the big cats, lions, cheetahs, leopards, also Elephants, Rhinos, and many others. As the sun gets hotter, animals tend to take refuge under shades so as for you it’s a good time to resume back in your camp for lunch. Later in the day visit the Chimpanzees Sanctuary and Baraka blind Rhino, learn his story, engage with rangers, feed him and learn more about conservation.

Day 6:Aberdares Scenic Tour – Lake Nakuru Lodge

Drive Time; 5hrs

After breakfast in your hotel, board your jeep driving towards the iconic central Kenya landscape, check in the park driving deep in the forest with high chances of spotting wildlife such as; buffaloes, bush pigs, mountain bongos, elands among other rare animal species.

Enjoy scenic Karuru Waterfalls, Chania and Queens cave to indigenous African Tropical climates.

Day 7:Lake Nakuru – Lake Naivasha

Drive Time; 2hrs

After breakfast you will proceed on a game drive in Lake Nakuru Park, known for its prolific bird-life including flamingos. The Park contains a sanctuary for the conservation of the white rhino while species like Cape Buffalo and Water buck can be seen near the shoreline.

Later check out of Nakuru national park for Naivasha arriving for lunch, you have an option to take a boat ride in this fresh water lake to go and see hippos and fish eagles at extra cost.

Day 8:Hells Gate National Park – Naivasha Hotel

Drive Time; 2hrs

Meals; Breakfast, Picnic Lunch & Dinner.

In this park even though there are no guns or fencing between you and wildlife, its most ideal for a walking safari and optional bicycle rides.

Wildlife in the national park includes; Giraffes, baboons, Warthogs, Buffaloes, Impalas, Zebras, Mongoose among others.

Day 9:Naivasha Hotel – Masai Mara

Drive time; 5Hrs

Meals; Lunch & Dinner.

The safari kicks off from your hotel/residence where our company driver will pick and advise about the tour before leaving. The drive follows north west of Kenya via the Great Scenic Rift Valley floor arriving at your camp/lodge for lunch. Before sundown, head out for an evening game drive in search for wildlife and beautiful landscape sceneries.

Day 10:Full Day Masai Mara

Meals; Lunch & Dinner.

Day 11Masai Mara – Nairobi

Drive Time; 5-6Hrs

Meals; Breakfast & Picnic lunch.

 

After an early breakfast and summarize your safari with a splendor morning game drive en-route out of the park. Having done this, it is also a good idea to pay a visit to Masai people village for a cultural show at an extra own cost from 20-30 USD pp.

Ccontinue your journey back to Nairobi or your onward destination with a stopover at Narok town for Lunch.
