Samburu is situated 350 kms north of capital Nairobi. This national reserve lies on the banks of Ewaso ngiro river and other side of Buffalo springs national reserve. Samburu national reserver is named after the local inhabitants Samburu community. The reserve was one of two areas in which conservationists George Adamson and Joy Adamson raised Elsa the lioness made famous of the best selling book and award winning movie “Born Free”.
In a day or two the Samburu delivers a unique safari experience with fascinating colorful Samburu people and wildlife viewing.
Samburu is accessible either by air or road. The park is the home to all Big cats; Lions, Leopards and Cheetahs, Wild dogs, large herds of Elephants, reticulated Giraffes, Beisia Oryx, Grevy Zebra, Gerenuk antelopes, Kudu, Somali Ostriches and over 400 species of birds. On the other side of the park is Buffalo Springs, Shaba National Reserves and to the north is Mt Ololokwe(Sabache) which also offers worth a visit.
