Combination of Mt Kenya trekking with a Kenya wildlife safari is a lifetime African adventure. This second highest mountain in Africa is more scenic than its sister Kilimanjaro. This program also takes you to the most renowned Kenya national wildlife parks like; Lake Nakuru and Masai Mara is a great way to experience magical Kenya Safaris. The concentration of wildlife in these two parks offers great opportunities to see lots of wildlife in a very short period of time. Here is a 5 days Mt Kenya trekking and 4 days Kenya safari itinerary starting from Nairobi hotel and back.

Itinerary

Day 1:Nairobi – Mt Kenya Chogoria Campsite/ Lodge (2,950m).

Leave from your pick up hotel or residence in Nairobi and drive via the great northern road passing rice plantations and eastern highlands arriving Chogoria town in 4 hours. It is from this town you will have lunch and meet the rest of your climbing crew (porters) and proceed with the driving through rain forest for about an hour. The trekking starts at bamboo forest to Chogoria park gate campsite.

Approx hiking time, 2 hours.
Dinner and overnight at the camp/Lodge.

Day 2:Chogoria Gate Campsite/ Bandas – Lake Ellis Campsite (3,400m).

After having breakfast, leave the camp hiking through lush vegetation and forest passing Old Urumandi Hut proceeding to Nithi water falls. Afterwards continue hiking passing Road head Campsite to Lake Ellis. In the afternoon, local explore the lake and around the campsite.

Approx 5-6 hours hiking.
Dinner and Overnight at the camp.

Day 3:Lake Ellis – Mintos Hut (4,300m).

After having breakfast, leave the camp trekking along a single trail through alpine and moorland vegetation. The trek between the two camps is a no water fetching zone, ensure that you have approx 3 litres of water to keep you going. Lunch will have been packed for you. Approximate 6-7 hours hiking. In the afternoon local explore around the Camp to the Temple and the view of the Gorges valley.

Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 4:Mintos Hut – Summit - Old Moses Camp (3,300m).

Wake up at around 0200 hours, have a simple breakfast, gear up and start hiking in the dark on a relatively on flat trail to steep and rocky scree surface reaching Point Lenana Summit (4985m) in 3 hours. While at this point you will enjoy a spectacular African sunrise with 360° views. On a clear day, Mount Kilimanjaro is visible at a far distance. Take some photos and start descending down to Shiptons Camp for full breakfast and some rest. Afterwards, continue trekking down along the Mackinders valley crossing Likki and Ontulili valleys to Old Moses Camp for a well-earned sleep. The approx distance from Shiptons to Old Moses Camp takes about 6 hours. Lunch will be provided along the way, dinner and overnight at the Camp.

Day 5:Old Moses Camp - Sirimon Gate - Nakuru Town Hotel

After the breakfast, leave the camp trekking down along a paved road passing through bamboo and tropical forests with chances of spotting wildlife reaching the gate in about 2 hours. Check out of Mount Kenya and board your safari vehicle driving towards Lake Nakuru, lunch will be provided en-route.
Dinner and overnight at Nakuru Hotel.

Day 6:Lake Nakuru Full Day Safari

Early breakfast then proceed for a full day game drives at Lake Nakuru national park. Lake Nakuru’s claim to fame is anchored on its flamingo’s and the over 400 species of birds found here. The Lake has also earned a reputation as an important haven for endangered species particularly the Rothschild Giraffe and the black and white rhino. With exception of elephants other residents in this park include; Leopards, Lions, waterbuck, buffalo and baboons among others. Picnic lunch will be provided inside the park.

Day 7:Nakuru Hotel – Masai Mara

Depart your Hotel soon after breakfast and drive via the scenic floor of the Great Rift Valley with views of lake Naivasha and Mt Longonot arriving Masai Mara in afternoon. Lunch at your camp before proceeding for evening game drives.

Dinner and overnight stay at your Camp/Lodge.

Day 8:Masai Mara Full Day.

In the Masai Mara happens the most spectacular wildlife drama of the natural world taking place. This is the annual migration of millions of wildebeest and zebra from the Serengeti (Tanzania) in search of water and pasture happening from July to September. Following on their heels are the predators of the savanna lion, cheetah, wild dogs, jackal, hyena and vultures. In this ecosystem you will easily see; African elephants, crocodiles, rhinoceros, impala, hippos and buffaloes among many wildlife. Picnic lunch will be provided at the Mara river overlooking hippos and perhaps wildebeests drama crossing the river.

Optional hot air balloon safari can be arranged at an extra cost of US$ 425 per person.
Dinner and overnight stay at your Camp/Lodge.

Day 9:Masai Mara- Nairobi

Morning game drive then return to the camp for breakfast. After that last game drive, we check out of the Masai Mara with an option to visiting Masai Cultural show at extra cost of $ 20 per person. Thereafter, we commence with driving back to Nairobi Hotel. Dinner can be organized at the famous Carnivore restaurant then transfer to the airport to board your flight back home.
